Hello you lovely lot!
I got really bored the other day, now that all my Uni work is over, and I’m not having to apply for hundreds of jobs every day, so I thought I’d play around and take some photos for my blog. When I was thinking about what to photograph, I realised I have a lot of props to use in the background of photos laying around, and that some people may find it kind of helpful if they need some inspiration!
I am by no means an expert in blog photography (yet… hopefully I might be one day!) but recently I have been more experimental in different photos, and since making my own DIY Blog Photo background, I’ve definitely improved!
Something that helps to kind of “fill up space” in a photo, particularly flat lay (taking photos of objects from above) photography, is having different props that you can place in the photo as well, so that it doesn’t look so empty. If you look back on my really old blog photos, you can see how much my photos have improved, and its not necessarily because iPhone cameras have improved!
So, here is a list of some stuff that I have in a”blog props” box, that I’ll always get out when taking photos for this little internet space of mine.
Fake Flower Petals
Makeup + Makeup Brushes
These are just a few ideas of the kind of things that I use at the moment when taking photos. My personal favourite ones are the fake flower petals, my watch, and cute stationery. There really aren’t any rules though so you can experiment with lots of different things until you find things that work for you.
I thought it might be helpful to list some places where I go to try and find blog props, where they aren’t a lot of money, but still look really cute. I live in the UK so if you’re from a different country these places might not be available, but places like Amazon will have hundreds of things on there as well!
I really love the Range, but I don’t know how well known it is, but basically it’s a huge shop which has lots of different sections, like homeware, crafts, diy, stationery, food, etc etc. This is where most of my blog props are from, and it’s also where I got all the material to make my photo board. It’s fairly cheap as well, so if you live near one, I’d definitely have a nosey, in particular the crafts section! They have a website as well which I have linked.
I love Paperchase so much! They have so much cute stationery, but also lots of really nice postcards, for about 80p!
I think this is now called The Flying Tiger, but they always have the most random things in their shops, and their stock changes regularly so it’s always worth having a look to see if you can find anything you could use as a photo props.
You can find pretty much anything on both of these, for really cheap! It all depends on the kind of things you are looking for. But you really don’t have to spend a lot on props so these may be a good shout, if like me, you’d rather not leave the house some days.
I hope this post will have been helpful for someone! I think it’s important to note that even if the quality of the blog prop isn’t too fab, it’s not the focus point of the photo in most cases, and also, editing is a thing, and can really change how photos look!
I’m planning on getting more blog posts done this week, so stay tuned for that, but in the mean time, thanks so much for reading as always!
Love, Lauren xx
