Yesterday, I went and got my eyebrows threaded for the first time, so I thought I would share my experience, so if you were thinking about trying it, you could find some of this information useful.
If you aren’t familiar with Threading, it is an ancient method of hair removal, which originated from the Middle East. Basically what happens is they take a piece of cotton thread and loop it around their fingers, and where the thread crosses, they run that over the hair and it takes it out from the root. That was a terrible explanation, so I will insert a picture of what I mean. If you still have no idea, just type ‘eyebrow threading’ on youtube and you will find loads of examples.
I have only ever got my eyebrows waxed before, and I was always pleased with the results, so I was a bit hesitant to try threading, but after doing lots of research, I figured I would bite the bullet, and give it a try. Threading is said to be better than waxing, as it doesn’t use any chemicals on the skin therefore its extremely sanitary, and also benefits you if you have sensitive skin. Also, with threading you can get a more precise shape. It is also said to be anti-aging, as apparently waxing a lot, can cause the skin around your eyebrows to sag a little.
I went to a place called Bhavi Beauty which has a variety of locations throughout the UK. This cost me £5 and usually when I get my eyebrows waxed it costs me £6. When I went in to the salon a woman sat me in a chair and told me to ‘hold my eyebrow.’ Now, even though I had done my research and I knew what she meant, that could be quite off putting to someone who has never even heard of eyebrow threading before.
Also before a wax, the beautician usually asks what I was looking for today, well this lady just whacked out the thread and started going at my brows! I admit, I could have stopped her, but I am a bit socially awkward, and it was too late anyway, she’d already started!
I found it to be a little painful, and my eyes did water, but I wouldn’t say it was more painful than waxing, its just a different kind of pain. The weird thing about it, is you can hear the hairs being yanked out of your skin….
Anyway, I was pleased with the results, and she didnt really change the shape of my brows, she just tidied them up a little. Here is a before and after photo.
I don’t know if these pictures are useful to you, but you can see in the before pictures my brows were a bit messy, and in the after picture they have been cleaned up. You can also see how pink my eyebrows were after! I took this picture about half an hour after they had been done, but after about 2 hours this went away.
The process was very quick, it took her 5 minutes to do my brows, and with waxing it generally takes me about 7-10 minutes.
Overall, I would say it was a success, but I don’t find the results I get to be too drastic from the ones I get when I have them waxed. Threading is better for the skin, and in my case it was cheaper too.
Have you ever got your brows threaded? If not, why not? If so, what are your experiences? I’d love to know.
Hope you’re having a good day, and found this post in someway useful.
Love from Lauren xx
